Profile: George Céspedes was born in Holguin in Cuba in 1979 and studied dance and choreography at the National School of Dance.
The Early Years: He joined Danza Contemporanea de Cuba as a dancer in 1998 when he graduated, and as a principal dancer has performed in more than 19 works in the company’s repertoire.
Choreography: George is also a prolific choreographer creating many works for Danza Contemporanea and for Ballet Naçional de Cuba, the national Ballet School and the National School of Dance.
Awards: George has won many Awards. His work, La Ecuaçion, which was performed at the London Coliseum, the Salford Lowry and Snape Maltings in 2007, won the Villa Nueva Prize (2004) and the Best Choreography Prize at the Iberoamerican Choreography Contest (2002). Mambo 3XX1 was nominated for both an Olivier Award and a TMA Award in 2010 following its highly successful performances during Danza Contemporanea de Cuba’s first UK Tour.
