My name is Sophie and I am the latest recruit to Dance Consortium as their Social Media and Web Editor. It’s the perfect time for me to begin working for Dance Consortium, just before their next tour takes off. This gives me the opportunity to dive straight in at the deep end and get involved with creating online and Social Media content before the tour even begins.

This past weekend provided exactly that when we were given the opportunity to head over to the spa town of Baden Baden in Germany to see performances by Cedar Lake and spend some time with the company. After a very long journey consisting of a plane, and a few too many trains we arrived in Baden Baden. We had glorious sunshine and within the beautiful setting of the Baden Baden Festspielhaus we were treated to three pieces of repertoire (two of which are coming to the UK) performed exquisitely by the dancers, which we were fortunate enough to see twice over two evenings. This gave us a great insight into the company and enabled me to discover the best way of sharing Cedar Lake with online audiences.

The performances have got me counting down the days for Cedar Lake to reach the UK. After seeing the reaction and standing ovations given by the Baden Baden audience I’m excited to see the response they will receive over here.

As a recent dance graduate I felt very lucky to be able to spend some time with the Cedar Lake dancers. It was lovely getting to know about them, where they trained, companies and celebrities they’ve danced with (Beyoncé, Justin Timberlake and Rihanna to name a few!) and what they enjoy about international touring. I was also fortunate to observe their company class. The dancers are extremely beautiful, talented and inspiring and will make a huge impact on UK stages.

During our visit I was also fortunate enough to have the opportunity to interview Cedar Lake’s Ballet Master and Interim Artistic Director Alexandra Damiani. Alexandra was a joy to watch teaching the company class. She was wonderful to interview, giving a great insight into Cedar Lake as a company and the different performances that they will be bringing to the UK. We were also lucky enough to interview Cedar Lake dancers Ebony Williams and Matthew Rich so keep an eye on our Facebook and Twitter pages for those to be released.

Having only been to the UK once before, to Sadlers Wells in October 2012, and for a very short period of time, Cedar Lake are not only extremely excited to perform on our stages but get in some sight-seeing of our country also. You can see Cedar Lake exploring UK stages and cities from Autumn 2013.
