The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater has been one of the most frequent and popular companies toured by Dance Consortium, with 4 visits to the UK by the main company and one visit by Ailey 2, the junior company, over the past 20 years. Founded by the late Mr Alvin Ailey in the 1960s the company is recognised by the US Congress as a ‘vital American cultural ambassador to the world’. Ailey’s performances celebrate the human spirit through the African American cultural experience and the American dance tradition, over 60 years the company have performed for over 25 million people in 71 countries.
Dance Consortium is proud to announce a new partnership with the Ailey company which will see more of the company’s work being shared with UK audiences over the next 3 years. The inclusion of Testament within the Birmingham International Dance Festival on Friday 4th June marks the first event of that new partnership which will also include a national UK tour by Ailey 2 and a brand new Participation Programme. This programme will focus on the talent development of young Black British dancers and provide a unique opportunity for dancers and youth dance companies from around the UK to engage with Dance Consortium member theatres and the Ailey company.
Full updates and opportunities to get involved in the Dance Consortium partnership with the Alvin Ailey American Dance Company will be available on the Dance Consortium website
