Why am I tweeting my cactus, you ask?
Cacti is one of seven dances that feature in the repertoire of NDT2’s 2016 UK Tour. Created in 2010, Cacti is one of Alexander Ekman’s most successful dance works. It consists of 18 international NDT2 dancers and yep, you guessed it, cacti!
“A gleeful and knowing parody of the art form’s greater excesses, Cacti is an affectionate, pointed and often hilarious deconstruction of the affectations of dance.”
Within Cacti’s choreography, for which Ekman employs classical music, the dancers become the instruments for the orchestra. Ekman uses every dancer’s unique movements to challenge the audience to reflect on the way in which art and dance are perceived.
Cacti will be performed at New Victoria Woking, Sadler’s Wells London, Birmingham Hippodrome, Edinburgh Festival Theatre, The Lowry Salford Quays, Theatre Royal Plymouth, Theatre Royal Newcastle and Theatre Royal Nottingham, The Mayflower Southampton, The Alhambra Theatre Bradford, and Brighton Dome.
