Deeply rooted in Argentinean culture, tango has fascinated and captivated the world with its sexuality, power and beauty.
Milonga is the term for a tango dance party. Inspired by the late night milonga scene held in the intimate bars of Buenos Aires, choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui has drawn on traditional influences and added a contemporary twist.
Collaborating with an incredibly talented cast of 17 performers, Cherkaoui unites Argentinean tango dancers, contemporary dancers and a live on stage band.
The result is a seductive and fascinating exploration of tango for the 21st century.
Multi Olivier award-winning Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui is a Sadler’s Wells Associate Artist. He is internationally renowned for his ground-breaking, large-scale productions collaborating with international artists such as Akram Kahn (Zero Degrees), Flamenco legend Maria Pages (Dunas), Damien Jalet (Babel) and the monks of the Shaolin Temple in China (Sutra).
For m¡longa, Cherkaoui collaborates with Argentinian tango superstar Nelida Rodriguez de Aure, with new music from Argentinean composer Fernando Marzan, video and set design by Eugenio Szwarcer, and costumes by renowned fashion designer Tim Van Steenbergen.

"What attracts me most about tango is the eternal embrace of the dancers. When a tango couple dances, we sense the hypnotic dialogue between two bodies connecting intuitively, merging into one. If there is such a thing as my style of dance, it is rooted in touch, in physical contact - and that is inherent in tango."
m¡longa is a Sadler’s Wells Production toured and presented by Dance Consortium.
Running time: 1 hour 45 minutes including a 20 minute interval. There will be no interval during the Sadler’s Wells or Brighton Dome performances.
