As we hurtle into 2012 the year of the Olympics (and the Dragon) here at Dance Consortium, we present to you the lowdown on which dance performances we are looking forward to across the UK over the coming months:
Nederlands Dans Theater 2’s reputation precedes them: impeccable technique, dramatic sets and costume and of course bright young things in the audience. (Don’t miss our home grown dancer David Ledger on this latest tour.) 6th – 31st March
By May the weather should have heated up (should have.) However, whatever the weather, after over a year without them, Danza Contemporanea de Cuba are finally returning in May for a month long tour of the UK. 3 May – 9 June.
Retina dance: Layers of Skin. With live music and contributions from the local community this work promises to be interesting. Catch them at the Nottingham Playhouse on 26th Jan.
Choreographer Blanca Li brings her latest creation Elektro Kif to Dance Touring Partnership venues around the UK. Expect a sizzling ball of Parisian energy “stunning street dance, meets theatre” all set to electro music. 10 Feb – 31st Mar.
Love costume? Then get yourself down to Sadler’s Wells to see Jean Paul Gaultier designs for the Angelin Preljocaj production of – Snow White/Blanche Neige. 10 -12 May.
Dance and drama fuses with Scottish Ballet’s: A Streetcar Named Desire. Film director Nancy Meckler and choreographer Annabelle Lopez Ochoa present this new piece with an original sultry jazz score. It’s touring between, 11 April -19th May.
Catch the film Pina in 2011? Did you leave inspired, wanting to see more of Pina Bausch’s work? You can catch 10 of her works with Tanztheater Wuppertal: World Cities 2012 at Sadler’s Wells and the Barbican as part of the Cultural Olympiad between 6th June – 9th July.
The Olympic ideal for this next one is: Faster, Higher, Stronger. If that’s how you like your dance then you’d better take a look at this: English National Ballet, National Dance Company of Wales and Scottish Ballet: Dance GB united for this triple bill. Phew! And there’s even a Turner Prize winner collaboration thrown in: 19 June – 8 July.
